Texas Giant Centipede
The Texas giant centipede is something else! I caught one on a collecting
trip and had planed to sell it, but once I got home and watched it there
is no way. I can't tell the sex on these things, so for now its a He. He
is about 4 inches long, just a wee little nard. Most of his body is orange
except the last centimeter or so, that is blue! When he is still his front
whiskers curl up and look like an old school cowboy mustache. He eats a
cricket every other day. If I put a cricket in with him the day after he
eats he will still kill it, but saves it until he is hungry. Centipedes
are really fast and amazing to watch run around. You must keep your
wits with you, around them.
His name is El Jefe! It is spanish for the boss.
I recently received another centipede. This one was caught near Canyon,
Tx. He (again I can't tell the sex of these guys,...so) has the exact opposite
coloration of El Jefe, and is about 2 inches bigger, or more. He lives
in a medium sized rectangular Kritter Keeper. There is about one inch of
sand, a 3 inch peice of hollowed out cactus skeleton. There is also a milk
cap with cotton in it, for water.
His name is El Woppo!
I have noticed that these guys need to have sufficient water around!
When they drink, and eat, their whiskers will curl back, and then straight
again. Its pretty neat!
Well it really sux but both of my centipedes died. I attribute
it to a lack of water, consedering they both lived in there water dishes
only coming out to eat.
